Labour is the process of bringing your baby into the world. It involves regular, increasingly frequent contractions of the uterus, the opening of the cervix, and the movement of the baby down the birth canal. Part of preparing yourself for this major life event is gaining a good understanding of what happens throughout the process. Various options are available to you to help cope with the discomforts of labour, such as breathing techniques, immersion in warm water, changing positions, nitrous oxide, and epidural.
